What We Offer

Disorders of the Spine

Neck and back pain are among the most common health problems. Fortunately, most episodes are temporary and can be relieved with nonoperative measures. The spine team at Alta Orthopaedics uses advanced state-of-the-art techniques to diagnose and treat the entire spectrum of spinal pathology. Our comprehensive approach maximizes conservative options prior to consideration of surgery. When surgery is needed, minimally invasive approaches are often employed.

Our advanced treatment philosophy includes a strong commitment to service. We focus on the individual needs of each patient. Our goal is to return people to a pain-free and active lifestyle.

Joint Replacement

Arthritis is a degenerative condition of a joint. It occurs when the smooth cartilage lining at the end of a bone is damaged or worn. In severe cases the lining is lost completely and “bone on bone” contact occurs. It can lead to disabling pain and deformity.

Joint replacement surgery is done as a treatment for severe arthritis. It involves removing the diseased joint and resurfacing the end of the bones with a metal cap and plastic spacer. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, more than 200,000 hip replacements are done each year alone.

Alta Orthopaedics offers joint replacements for the cervical spine, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. We use minimally invasive techniques and state of the art implants. The procedure can often be done with a spinal nerve block eliminating the risks involved with general anesthesia. Additionally, a peripheral nerve block can be used to provide complete pain control for up to 3 days following surgery.

Sports Medicine

Alta Orthopedic Sports Medicine provides state-of-the-art care of athletic injuries for competitive athletes of all levels – recreational, youth, collegiate and professional. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to develop a treatment plan individualized for each patient’s needs. We aim for each patient to return to their highest level of function using physical therapy, regenerative medicine and, when necessary, the latest surgical techniques.

Alta is proud to treat and support the Santa Barbara Foresters baseball team and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

Foot & Ankle

Feet and ankles are two of the most frequently injured parts of the body. They are complex, rugged, intricately balanced, and under frequent stress. Unfortunately, they are also some of the most frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed. The foot and ankle service at Alta Orthopaedics uses state of the art techniques to accurately diagnose and treat every aspect of lower extremity pathology in athletes and recreationalists of all ages.

The vast majority of foot and ankle conditions can be treated conservatively. We maximize nonsurgical techniques prior to considering surgery. We will keep you informed and educated in every aspect of your care and recovery.

Hand & Upper Extremity

Our hands, wrists, and elbows allow us to physically interact with our world. While our arms are critical to nearly every activity of daily living, their true importance is not recognized until they are injured or ailing.

The Hand and Upper Extremity service at Alta Orthopaedics provides a comprehensive and personalized evaluation with a customized treatment plan for each patient, combining the most proven and innovative methods to care for and cure our patients.

The most effective treatment for most problems that affect the hand, wrist, and elbow are conservative and non-surgical solutions. These include different hand therapy modalities, bracing or splinting, injections, or simple activity modification, which are typically successful in improving our patients’ conditions. While we maximize conservative care, when surgery is necessary, the safest and most advanced techniques are used to increase your function and decrease your pain as quickly and safely as possible.

Our promise to you, our patients, is to educate you about your condition and keep you as informed as possible throughout your treatment course. We listen to your concerns and encourage your questions so that you remain educated and involved. This allows us to provide you with the most personalized, highest quality, health care.

We look forward to taking care of you.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. They work closely with the physicians to develop and implement individual rehabilitation plans and goals. We maintain the highest standard of care and excellence to help you restore strength, function, and quality of life.

WHY MAY I NEED TO SEE A PHYSICAL THERAPIST?

Physical therapists are health care professionals that promote function and mobility through examination, diagnosis, and intervention. They limit pain and maintain or restore strength and range of motion after injury or surgery. They promote overall fitness and health.

Physical therapists also use electrical stimulation, hot packs or cold compresses, and ultrasound to relieve pain and reduce swelling. They may use traction or deep-tissue massage to relieve pain. Therapists also teach patients to use assistive and adaptive devices, such as crutches, prostheses, and wheelchairs. They also may show patients exercises to do at home to expedite their recovery.

Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is a game-changing combination of traditional medicine, tissue engineering, and molecular biology. It has the potential to fully heal damaged tissues. Historically, orthopedic treatment has focused on alleviating disease symptoms. Regenerative medicine, however, is focused on modifying the disease process to slow or prevent its progression. These exciting techniques offer hope for patients who have conditions that are beyond repair short of surgery. The physicians at Alta Orthopaedics are incorporating regenerative medicine principles into all of their orthopedic care. We provide the following specific regenerative medicine therapies.
