History
After receiving his Bachelors of Science
degree from the University
of Arizona, Dr. Hutchinson traveled to South Africa's prestigious Stellenbosch
University where he completed his medical training.
He completed his orthopaedic
residency at the University
of Washington in Seattle.
Dr. Hutchinson began his practice in Santa Barbara in
1980 with Leonard B. Burgess, M.D. In 1985 Dr. Hutchinson and Dr. William Dunbar founded Orthopaedic
Specialists of Santa Barbara, now Alta Orthopaedics. Since that time, Dr. Hutchinson has focused his interests on treating disorders of the spine. He is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and an active member
of the North
American Spine Society.
Dr. Hutchinson is committed
to providing the highest quality of care with compassion
and sensitivity to the individual needs of each patient.
He strongly believes in a conservative approach for the treatment
of problems involving the spine.

Dr. Hutchinson was the first
surgeon in the tri-county region to perform
kyphoplasty which is used to treat compression fractures of the
